I first met Franks Sanders in 1973 when he was a graduate assistant in the biology department at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. He was wild and crazy and a totally free spirit. He's calmed down quite a bit these days but he's definitely still a free spirit, thank goodness. When my daughter, Abbey (19 yrs old), decide that she wanted to rock climb Frank was the first person I thought of. I had followed him up Bee Rock and across Chicken Delight 25 years ago and I remembered that he was a great teacher and one hell of a lot of fun to climb with. On May 18 Abbey and I summited with the help of Frank's guides and friends, Jaap and Jonathan. Play day on Friday with Frank was a great way to get use to the rock, the rope and the effort. When we got up on Saturday morning Franks back was out but Jaap and Jonathan jumped right in there. We climbed all day; six pitches, and summited about 4:30. It was absolutely awesome. The best adrenaline rush this 52 year old has ever, ever had. The skill, patience and concern for safety that these two men exhibited throughout the climb made this a memory that Abbey and I will be able to share for the rest of our lives. I recommend this climb, and these men, to anyone who has ever even had an inkling of a desire to try something that's a little left of center. I can personally guarantee that you will not regret it. And don't forget to go to Spearfish to eat supper and listen to Frank play piano. Thank you Frank, Jaap and Jonathan. We knew you wouldn't let us down (pun) ..Sam & Abbey
