Uncompahgre Peak

I summitted Uncompahgre on Sunday September 3rd, 2000 with my two friends, Greg Bass and Gary Mohr.

We started our trek from the Matterhorn Trailhead at 0600 and made the summit by 1130. We followed the trail to the east side of the mountain where it joined with the Nellie Creek trail. The climb up was fairly easy. The class 3 climb starting right before the top at 14000 feet was the most interesting part of the climb. The view from the top was spectacular especially Matterhorn and Wetterhorn peaks off to the west.

It was very windy at the top with temperatures below freezing.

I was a little disappointed we did not summit Wetterhorn that day but this peak will wait for another day.
