Qomolangma Feng (Mount Everest) seen from above the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. The photograph shows the dramatic North Face extending from the Rongbuk glacier at 5300m to the summit at 8850m: three and a half vertical kilometres of mountain!
The photograph was taken on a cloudy morning in August 2004.We were peering blindly through the fog when suddenly the clouds evaporated and the mountain appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
The above picture was taken around 5pm Nepal Standard time on the summit of Mt. Everest on 28 August 1985. This was the second successful ascent of Mt. Everest in Monsoon season after Reinhold Messner made the first ascent in 1980. Seen on the summit are Ang Karma Sherpa, Shambu Tamang, Narayan Shrestha and Toni Sors.
