My girlfriend and I drove up from Golden Beach campground on Raquette Lake and together tackled Algonquin. We had done Marcy a few months earlier and had hoped for better weather than we got that day. It turned out to be a perfect day.
While Marcy is a long climb, Algonquin is just a beast of a climb. Her profile from Wright Peak (which we also did that day) just looms above you and you realize that while Marcy may be the King of the Adirondack chessboard, the Queen is the one you have to watch out for!
Still, this has to be one of the most beautiful trails I have ever walked. Took us 3.5 hours to reach the top, which the summit steward assured us was average. I loved each and every step.
Stop reading! Go climb it!!!!! :^)
