Little Bear Peak Summit Log (#11249)
- Signed By: Carl Devendorf
- Date Submitted: June 30, 2003
We started early about 6:30 A.M. the temperature was in the 20s F. Our approach was the West ridge and we reached the funnel by 8:30. There was still quite a bit of snow and it was frozen solid. We managed to get footing on the snow next to the rock and climbed to end of a fixed rope and the funnel bottom. Almost all the rock was coated in a half inch of ice and impossible to climb. We climbed up rock about 100 feet on the left side of the funnel to a small couloir and scrambled up the rest of the way to the summit by 11:00 a.m. On the way down we repelled using the fixed rope at the top of the funnel, which looked in good shape, by this time the ice was melted. It was a great climb, we considered it our hardest fourteener so far due to hard snow and ice.
