Description
Situated near Zuunmod about 50km south of the Mongolian Capital of Ulaan Baatar, Tsetsee Gun Uul (2258m / 7,406ft), is one of the holy mountains in the Bogd Khaan Mountain range and the highest in the Bogd Uul region.
The 5km walk starts at the car park at the entrance to the Bogd Khaan Uul protected area and climbs up to the Manzshir Khiid Monastery. The trail then follows a stream east until it nearly disappears, then turns north, climbing gradually for about 2 hours over a ridge to an open area, where the rocky outcrop summit comes into view.
The trail is relatively well marked with yellow paint marks on the Mongolian larch and pine trees. The final 100 metres climbs steeply to the summit where you are met by numerous shaman Ovoo (a sacred pyramid-shaped collection of stones) with prayer flags.
