Description
Kalanag (Black Serpent), also called Black Peak, lies to the North West of Bandarpunch It is a major peak in the Bandarpunch massif. It gets it’s name owing to it’s resemblance to the hood of Black Cobra. The peak can be approached from the road head at Sankri. The trekking route through Taluka, Osla and Ruinsara valley leads to the base camp at Kyarkoti. The peak provides a very descent and gradual southern approach but towards the Northern slope it features a very steep, almost vertical slope. However the north western flank provides a challenging approach which appeals to the adventure spirit of the climbers. Kalanag was first climbed by J.T.M. Gibson in 1955 via the northwest flank and has subsequently been climbed a number of times by this route.
