Makawili Peak is a dome-shaped peak commanding a presence to the north of Sitio Campuestuhan, a popular jump-off point to spots in Mount Mandalagan like Tinagong Dagat. Makawili Peak is very much a forested peak although there are signs of deforestation and human encroachment over its western side.
Despite of its proximity to Campuestuhan, Makawili Peak is hardly visited by mountaineers. The valley of the upper part of Imbang River slices between the base of the South Face of Makawili and northern edge of Campuestuhan. In 1999, four members of Recoletos Association of Mountaineers (RAMS) scaled the summit of Makawili through the South Face. The RAMS party reported the absence of trails on the South Face and the breath-taking views from the summit, from the landscape of Bacolod City to the island of Panay across the Guimaras Strait.
