Description
Piz Umbrail (3031 m) is at the border between Italy and Switzerland, a few kilometers in the nort-west direction from the Stelvio Pass (2760 m). The trail to the mountain starts at the Umbrail Pass (2501 m). Both Passes can be reached by very good and attractive roads from the south (Bormio), north-west (Val Venosta), and north (Santa Maria, Val Mustair). Such a high car access and the only remaining 500 meters for climbing make it an easy climb with exceptional view. Several hotels and huts are available for accommodation at the nearby Stelvio Pass. The official border check-point is just below the mountain at the Umbrail Pass, in the south-east direction from the summit.
