Description

The fell known as Grey Friar is the least visited of the Coniston Fells lying somewhat separate from the main part of the range overlooking the valley of Cockley Beck and the wilds of Upper Eskdale. Its position is the main reason for getting far fewer visitors than its close neghbours though the view from the summit is more than worth the diversion with some of the finest views to be had of the Scafell Range to the North.

The fell is usually ascended from the Coniston direction with the aforementioned diversion from Swirl How or Great Carrs or from Little Lagdale or Wrynose Pass following the ridge of Wet Side Edge.
