- Photo by Michael DenneThis is a view of Mt Balatukan from the National Highway passing through the main business and commerical district of Gingoog City, which lies 13kms to northeast of the mountain. This view looks southwest up at the southeastern end of the mountain's volcanic crater, about 8 miles or nearly 13 kms away. Cagayan De Oro City is on other side of mountain about 63 kms distant. Two other high volcanic peaks lie in this region to south of Balatukan, namely Mt Sumagaya 2248m and Mt Mangabon 2480m, and maybe also be visible in another photo here. Picture taken at 3.47pm on Friday 28 May 2010.

- Photo by Michael DenneThis is view of Mount Balatukan from the wharf at coastal town of Medina about 15.3kms directly north of the mountain - visible here at top right of my picture. The highest point of the mountain is on far side of the top of the crater seen here - a further 3 kms distant. My guess is that the peak in top middle picture directly above the fruit processing factory is Mt Mangabon - 2480m. I took this photo at 5.45am on Tuesday 1st June 2010 while on an early morning walk around the town centre of Medina, and the wharf area where local fishermen were busy. At night local townsfolk go here to eat local food cooked at stalls on the wharf, and entertain themselves with kareoke machines. The locals have respect for the mountains due to their past volcanic behaviour, and the frequent floods that run down the gorges off the mountains during heavy tropical storms.

- Photo by Michael DenneThis view is distant from beach at a coastal town named Magsaysay about 35 kms northeast of Mt Balatukan across Gingoog Bay. Taken just before 2pm on Tuesday 8th June 2010. The Mountain shows its long ridge-like features where it forms a promontory towards the coast northwest at towns of Talisayan and Balingoan where Sipaca Point can be seen jutting up from the coast there on far right of picture. Further right out of picture is the volcanic island of Camiguin. As seems to be the case here not much of it is visible during afternoons due to the thundercloud activity over it.

- Photo by Michael DenneBalatukan - a dormant volcano - is seen here from the northwest from the shoreline at coastal fishing town of Sagay on Camiguin Island, about 15 kilometres off the northern coast of Mindanao in southern Philippines. This was a particularly clear day on Sunday 2nd December 2012 with 2 layers of cloud at the 4000 and 6000 feet levels. A coastal highway runs aong the distant shore between Butuan city (to left) and Cagayan de Oro City (to right). The mountain summit area seen here is about 40-48 kilometres distant to southeast. Two days after this photo was taken a powerful typhoon named locally as "Pablo" (aka "Bopha") hit the southern Philippines and passed over this peak in a NW direction towards Island of Palawan and Vietnam. I was lucky to get his photo on a calm day just before the deadly storm passed killing over 1,000 people in the Compostela Valley due to this typhoon.
