Thanks to Pete Buckley for adding this peak.
Esk Pike is part of the horseshoe of peaks surrounding the remote upper part of the Eskdale Valley and as that area also includes the popular summits of Scafell Pike and Bowfell it is climbed comparatively infrequently. When it is it is usually on the way to one of its better known neighbours.
Esk Pike is worthy of an outing though and its rocky summit overlooking the wilds of Upper Eskdale is a good place to make for when the crowds of day trippers have invaded Scafell Pike or Bowfell. The summit is set back from the main valleys but is easy to reach from either Wasdale Head, Borrowdale or Langdale. From Eskdale, because the road only enters the lower part of that valley, it is a long walk to Esk Pike through some of the wildest terrain in the Lake District. A fine outing.
