Kneifelspitze

Description

Kneifelspitze is an isolated mountain above Berchtesgaden. From the summit you have very nice view.

From Berchtesgaden by car or by foot ( 1 h ) to the settlement Maria Gern. From the church of Maria Gern on a steep carriage road,later on marked path to the summit. 1 1/2 h. On the summit inn Paulshütte. (Beside the church in Maria Gern you will see a sign, whether Paulshütte is managed.) If you descent from Paulshütte a few feet to east and walk some minutes you come to

very nice view point, where you can see the city and the fortress of Salzburg.

Possibility for descent ( o n l y in summer !) : Descent on the carriage road ( don´t branch off to Maria Gern ) to a signpost. On a marked path ( one passage with cable) through the eastern slopes , at last on a carriage road to inn Dürrlehen. Descent to historic barrage Theresienklause and walk through the gorge Almbachklamm ( fee) to inn Kugelmühle( 1640 ft). 2 h. Interesting production of marble balls, former e.g. used to stabilize sailships, today souvenirs. From here by bus or by feet ( 1h ) to Berchtesgaden.
