Description
This is a mountain located to the South-West of Lake Moogerah, which is itself South-West of the town of Boonah in SE Queensland.
To access the track, you need to follow Mt Greville Road until you see a small sign pointing to the Mt Greville National Park. From there, the carpark is just a quick trip down a dirt road.
While the tracks are said to be unmarked, most of them can be easily spotted by a well-worn track or coloured dots spray-painted onto trees and rocks. However, at some stages, these tracks and rocks vanish, so you will be left to your navigational skills.
There are three common tracks to the summit, being the South-East Ridge, Waterfall Gully and Palm Tree Gully. The South East Ridge is a suggested route to take on the ascent, as it gives spectacular views over the countryside. At stages, there is the option to venture off to smaller ridges just off the track to get a good view, but be very cautious about the sudden drops and dangers that are involved in walking this track at points.
If you decide to descend through Palm Tree Gully, you will need to look for the 'P' clearly etched into one of the trees on the way down. This is where the South-East Ridge track and the Palm Tree Gully track meet. Head right for Palm Tree Gully. Be cautious, as there are stages where you may slip on loose rocks and rubble while descending through the Gully. Be wary of where you put your feet.
The round trip takes approximately 3.5 hours when walking quickly, with a 30 minute break at the top. It is suggested to begin the walk at around 6 or 7am depending on the light so you can take the time to enjoy the walk and avoid walking through the midday heat.
Be sure to take snake-bite and first aid equipment, as snakes can be common.
