Mount Weed

Description

Mount Weed is located in the Mistaya River Valley of Banff National Park. It is situated south of Mount Noyes and opposite of Mount Patterson on the east side of Mistaya River Valley. Mount Weed is visible from the scenic Icefields Parkway and from from Lower Waterfowl Lake. The mountain was named in 1902 by J.N. Collie for George Weed who made numerous first ascents in the Canadian Rockies in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Mount Forbes was one such notable summit they made the first ascent of together in 1902.

Mount Weed can be climbed in one day due to its proximity to Highway 93N. There is approximately 1300 meters of elevation gain. Refer to Scrambles In the Canadian Rockies, 3rd edition,by Alan Kane for route information.
