Description
Barrhorn (3610 m) is a mountain in the south-eastern part of the Turtmanntal (Turtmann valley), in the canton Valais (Wallis), Switzerland. Two standard approaches from the north and south are, respectively, from the Turtmann hut (2519 m) located in Turtmann valley, and from the Topali hut (2674 m) in the Mattertal.
From the north, one can come by car taking the road from the small village Turtmann towards Gruben and driving up to Vorder Sänntum at 1900 m. There is no official parking there, though people leave their cars at the end of the road (in fact the road continues to the barage but it is not open fur public). From there walk towards the barage and Turtmann hut which is visible on the rock above the barage on its left side. The route is marked so just follow the signs. Difficulty L (F). From the car parking to the summit in less than 5 hours. From the Turtmann hut to the summit 3 hours. In spite of such an altitude the mountain is free of snow in the summer time, so standard walking shoes in summer months are enough.
