Carpathian Peak

Description

Carpathian Peak is located at the isthmus of the Kenai Peninsula where the Chugach and Kenai mountain ranges meet. It is situated in the Kenai Mountain Range, south of Portage Lake and southwest of Baird Peak. While modest in height, local relief is great as the eastern aspect of the mountain rises up from Blackstone Bay, the western inlet reach of Prince William Sound. Carpathian Peak is surrounded by a mantle of ice on its south and east aspect, the Skookum Glacier on the northwest slope, and the Portage Glacier to the north. Carpathian Peak can be seen and photographed because it is a backdrop to scenic Turnagain Arm as you travel south on the Seward Highway or on the train.
