Description
Middle peak on ridge of 3 south west of Buttermere. Marvelous ridge walk in nearly all weathers. Popular paths much improved by NT. AG
High Stile rises between the Lakeland valleys of Buttermere and Ennerdale and can be climbed from either side though the Buttermere face provides the most impressive scenery. Here precipitous slopes - forested in their lower reaches and craggy higher up - rise for well over 2000 feet from the lake shore.
The finest route here is the traverse of the ridge ascending Red Pike from Buttermere, crossing High Stile to High Crag and descending by Scarth Gap Pass to Buttermere where a lakeside path will take you back to your start point. PB
