Mount Torment

Description

Mount Torment is located in the spectacular alpine setting of North Cascades National Park. Torment is situated 1 mile west of Forbidden Peak, 3 miles southeast of Eldorado Peak, and directly south of Moraine Lake. Torment has gained popularity as part of the Torment-Forbidden Traverse, an exposed alpine route. The rock on Torment is solid Eldorado Orthogneiss and many routes have been established. Refer to Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide, Volume 2, for a listing of all the established climbing routes. According to the Beckey guidebook: "The name Torment was originated by the first ascent party because of the torture of a hot day with only one orange for quenching thirst."
