Description
Whistler Mountain towers over Rainy Pass along the North Cascades Highway. As drivers make their way east on the highway from Washinton Pass to Rainy Pass they are presented with an excellent view of Whistler as they pass by the Blue Lake Trailhead. Whistler is a good early season climbing choice for conditioning, and its position farther east along the range means it has drier weather than the mountains to the west. The North Cascades Highway is usually plowed open in April or May. Take ice axe and crampons for spring conditions for some steep snow and some scrambling at the summit. The summit offers a close view of its neighbor Cutthroat Peak, and views out Golden Horn, Tower, Silver Star, Liberty Bell, Black, Goode, and many more to list all.
