Description
The mountais close to Arthur's Pass and Ottira Valley offer a good range of climbing within reach of State Highway 73. Mt Rolleston is the dominant peak of the area and is climbed by several route.
There are 30 or so huts and bivy sites in the Arthu's Pass National Park, fees are low (from $5 to $15 per night). Arthur'Pass can be reached by train and coach from Christchurch. Weather in the Arthur's Pass Region is unpredictable, with sessions of unsettled weather from the north/west with gusty winds and heavy rain fall.
