After climbing Dudly and being turned back hafeway across Knife-Edge by a thunderstorm on July 4th, we returned on September 25th for another attempt. This time the weather was perfect. After ascending Helon-Taylor at a "Guides Pace", we quickly crossed Knife Edge and reached the summit of Baxter about 12:30 pm, as a great party was winding down - 30 AT through hikers had just completed their wonderful trek from Georga. Although the wind cill made the descent from Baxter a little uncomfortable, the views were spectacular.
Words of wisdom: Start early, pace yourself, take plenty of water and high energy food, be prepared for all weather conditions - cold, wind, rain, and/or snow. take a flashlight - but make sure you get down before dark!
