Mount Katahdin

Mount Katahdin Summit Log (#8464)

First time to Baxter park. Leaving from Quebec city awfully late (19h00) on friday night, and stoping in St-Georges-de-Beauce for the grocery, we drove by night on the small country roads of Maine, at approximatly 30 miles per hour, witnessing approximatly 15 deers and 12 mooses, plus a few rabbits and racoons. "Moose country", they say... We did a bad route planning and drove on the theoretically shortest way, realizing afterward we were going ride dirt roads.

Arriving at the gate at 2h15 am, we were second in line! Set up the tent and try to sleep there, I think we got something like 1 hour of sleed before climbing Kathadin. The day begins at 4h30 am! On the trail at 7h00, out of the trail at 19h00. Yannick, Genevieve, Louis-Pierre and I climbed up Hunt trail, the long and difficult Knife Edge, and finally, the peak!

An exhausting day. If you were there on this day, you probably remember 4 walking zombies stoping at every ten steps on the way down, hoping the parking lot was after the next pine tree!

At dinner, no need to say, we all fell asleep in our spaghetti plates! Crazy, difficult, but magnificent!
