Mount Williamson Summit Log (#8134)

I made my 2d effort to summit in winter via the NE Ridge. There was little snow cover until above about 10,800' which meant lots of nasty bushwacking and scree/talus crossing. On summit day, despite a concerted effort, from our high camp at just under 11,000', we could only get to the East Horn [14,125'] by our 2 pm turn-around time. We still had to downclimb the ridge by headlamp the last 2 hrs. Very little sign of human passage on the way up and only 10 entries in the register since 1979, some of which must be from those who hiked over from the true summit. The ridge itself has plenty of 3d and 4th class and a few 5th class spots, as well. While a cool trip, I can't say I recommend it--just too much tough work.
