My wife decided I needed a trip for Father's Day. This past winter was the first season I hadn't skied in 18 years. We started out at the upper parking lot of Taos Ski Valley. We were also staying across the parking lot because you can get great rates in the off season at some of the ski lodges. We went up trail 90 to Bull-of-the-Woods pasture and then took the trail to the south-east to Wheeler Peak. I slipped on some snow and ice around Frazer Peak and slid a couple hundred feet. I just relaxed and got in a glissade and used my hiking pole to self arrest. As we went further we past a couple coming back because of the snow in the Middle Fork and LaCal Basin. My wife urged me on, and we made it, and then came down the short way (Willams Lake)--sliding on talus and glissading on snow --- great day!
