Tsubakuro Dake (Mt. Tsubakuro)

Description

Tsubakuro Dake is one of Japan's more interesting mountains because of its landscape of fins, needles and spires of soft granite, possibly quartz monzonite, though I have not been able to verify the exact type of granite. The peak sticks up from long narrow range forming the eastern-most range of the North Alps that also includes Jonen Dake and Otensho Dake. It is basically a walk right up to the top (although very steep in parts) where one has great views over the North Alps, to Mt. Fuji and over the Azumino River Valley. Enzansou (Tsubakuro Mountain Lodge) provides food and acomodation and there are tent sites as well.
