Almagre Mountain

Description

Almagre Mountain is located directly west of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and directly south of Pikes Peak. Almagre Mountain offers amazing views of Pikes Peak, and even the cog rail snaking its way up to the summit of Pikes Peak.

Almagre usually has plenty of snow on it until early summer whiwebsite(http:/ch could make the trip difficult in the winter months without proper equipment, but during the summer months it is basically a walk up with a varitey of ways up. There is a rough dirt road that goes almost all the way to the top which can be followed, or you can park off of Rd. 379 in Frostys Park. To get to Frostys Park you must follow Old Stage road until it turns into Gold Camp Road west of The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.

This is a great warm-up for Colorado's 14'ers (length wise and altitude and can be accomplished in a day). I'd estimate round trip mileage is about 8 miles or so varying on snow fields, and the route you take. The hardest part is accessing the trail to the top of the mountain (email me with specific questions about trail from Frostys Park or road).
