Description

Mt. Pierce was named for Franklin Pierce who was the only US president born in New Hampshire. The USGS has not officially accepted the Mt. Pierce name, therefore, some maps refer to this mountain as Mt. Clinton. Access to the mountain from the southeast is by the Mt. Clinton Trail & Dry River Trail (off NH Route 302). The more popular ascent is via the Crawford Path with a brief switch onto the Webster-Cliff Trail to reach the summit. The summit is flat with 2 geological survey markers embedded in the stone. Best view is on the east face. If inclement weather occurs, nearby shelter at Mizpah Springs is about 0.8 mi away.
