Description
With passes over 3000 and a good dozen of over 4000 meter peaks "Idr·ren Dr·ren", so the name of the local Berber tribes, draw many enthusiastic climbers to the Atlas Mountains in North Africa. As an important base for tours in the Toubkal area serves the Neltner Hut (or Refuge du Toubkal) of the CAF Casablanca in the Mizane valley, situated at an altitude of more than 3200 meters. The best season for skiing the period from January to April is a possibility. We spent one week in March 2001 for skiing in Morocco and climbed on 19th of March this beautiful mountain.
This was our first 4000 m peak in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. Because of little snowfall this year we had to carry our skis from the Neltner Hut (3200 m) for an hour. After good 2 hours we reached the ski depot. Than we climbed to a pass and further to the peak from the west side. The weather was marvellous, warm and calm and we had a magnificent view to the surrounding mountains. At about noon we started our downhill run. The snow was perfect. A wonderful mountain.
