Description
Poon Hill lies in the foothills of the Annapurnas in the Himilayas. Whilst it is below the snowline in Nepal year-round, it is a wonderful hill to walk up for sunrise. Located to the south-west of the Anapurna massif and across a large river valley, it commands spectacular views of all four Anapurnas, Machupuchre, Nilgiri South and Daulagiri. The walk from Ghorepani to the summit is short, but if approaching from the north (as I did) be prepared for a long, uphill day prior to the sunrise expedition with a 1,500m steep ascent. Also be prepared for the possibility that you may suffer from slight altitude sickness at this level, though the symptoms are not that impairing.
