Great mountain. Probably one of my favorite. Made camp at Long Lake which in it's own is beautiful. Our route took us over New Army Pass where we encountered a snow cornice near the ridge. Great steps had been cut, so making it up was no problem. From New Army the only down side is the loss of ~300 feet is elevation gain into the saddle where Old Army Pass makes it way up. A brief look at Old Amry made me glad that New Army had been created. From that point there are many routes to the summit with trails leading in all directions. The trip to the top was not as bad as people made it sound with the scree, but still intense all the same. You can almost boulder hope most of the way up the steeper sections of the main mountain. The mountain is deceiving from a distance as it looks like a long straight shot up to the summit from the south, but it is all the vast valleys between the smaller ridges on the way up the mountain that gets you. The push up the mountain once there is of your choice of route.
