Mount Princeton

Mount Princeton Summit Log (#11835)

Due to weather threat scrapped plands to climb up from the more challenging Grouse Canyon and did the standard hike from the radio towers. Parked just above the towers and hiked up the Mt. Princeton rd. until the trail breaks off the road (this could be easy to miss). Trail turns back NE and traverses over the ridge into the large bowl that makes up Princeton's East face. Easy walking over bolderfield trail that makes quite a gentle climb. At about 13,200 where a visible mine sits below the summit we boulder climbed STRAIGHT UP Princeton to the summit. Took over an hour and half to do the 900 + ft. But it was fun, and I think it might beat the network of scree trails we came down as we decended the SE ridge to the saddle between Princeton peak and Tigger peak. As we figured, our stay at the peak was cut short as threatening clouds developed all around us. Thunder and lightning followed just as we left the ridge (it was only 11:20 am).
