One of the minor peaks of Mount Mandalagan, Marapara South Peak is adjacent to the south of Marapara Peak. Below south of this peak is Tinagong Dagat, a crater-lake which is dry most of the year except in the rainy season or after the onset of a heavy downpour in summer.
The peak is just 150 meters above the lakebed of Tinagong Dagat, a major draw for mountaineers around the country for its scenic beauty and flat grass-carpeted field which could accommodate hundreds of campers. The ascent of the peak is a convenient side-trip for campers. Scaling it could take only a couple of hours of scramble over the East Ridge.
The top of Marapara South is broad, almost level and is wooded. The highest point on it is 4-meter tall boulder in the northern edge of the summit area. Despite of visual obstructions provided by the vegetation, the summit affords a vantage position to survey the surrounding landscape in the interior of the mountain.
