Description
Roetlspitz (Rötlspitz; Punta Rosa, 3026 m) is one of easy 3000ers in the area of the Stelvio Pass (2760 m). The mountain is located north of the pass on the Swiss side and can be climbed in about 2 hours from the Pass, with the hight difference of only 266 meters. Two other routes, from the north (from Sta. Maria in Munstertaal along Val Costainas) and from the north-east (from the village Trafoi), are lengthy walks. The approach from the Pass starts at the parking which is in Italy and the route goes over the Three-languages peak (Dreisprachen spitze, Cima Garibaldi, 2843 m) passing the Rifugio Garibaldi. There you are already in Switzerland and the route continues over a large plateau with some remnants of the battles from the WW1. In that area one goes partly counter-clockwise around the summit and the route enters the Italian teritory again for some time.
