Description
Despite it's relatively modest height, Mt Howitt has a true alpine feeling. The huge summit dome is comparable to Mt Bogong's, but without a snowpole line.
Tracks to the north lead to the spectacular Crosscut Saw, to the east is Macallister Springs with it's refuge Hut, to the south west is Mt Magdala and Hell's Window and over the cliffs to the west is the ski resort of Mt Buller.
Access isn't hard in summer, but in winter the Howitt High Plains, Bindaree and Cobbler Lake roads are all closed by snow and at least a week should be allowed for a return trip.
Thanks to Bogong for this description.
