Mangart

Description

Mangart, 2678 m, is the third highest mountain in Slovenia. The most convenient routes start at the Mangart saddle (2055 m), accessible by car from the south-west direction. Driving from Soca Valley and Koritnica Valley, from Log pod Mangartom towards the Predil Pass (1156 m), shortly before the Predil Pass one should turn right along the Mangart road (entrance fee 5 euro). Two normal routes start from the Mangart saddle, the Slovenian and Italian ones. In both cases one reaches the summit in less than 2 hours. There are other numerous routes, some of them hard ferratas described in the link below. There is a mountain hut on the Slovenian side, just below the saddle at 1906 m, and the Bivouac Nogara on the north Italian side at 1850 m.
