Description
Mt Popomaneseu on the island of Guadalcanal is the highest mountain in the Solomon Islands. The high plateau reaches a summit of 2,340m. The ridgeline is known as Haiacha in the local Guadalcanal language. The area boasts amazing birdlife, and stunning montane forests. It is currently threatened by mining. The walk to the summit from the Tenaru takes 3 days. One should take a week to hike to and from. Current land tenure systems on Guadalcanal makes this climb a tricky one. Negotiating trail access with local landowners is a must.
