Wheeler Peak

Wonderful experience but had to battle 25 mph winds on the way up (oh well, made for clear views of the surroundings). Started out at 7:25. Reached the top at 12:25. Spent an hour comparing stories with the 4 hikers who got there ahead of us. Reached the car again at 16:55. Would guess that close to 15 made it to the top today and that nearly that many turned back because of the wind.

Quick note on the availability of camping sites. We arrived at the park at 13:00 on Friday of the Labor Day weekend and had several prime sites to pick from - but I'd bet all were taken by the end of the day. This is only a 4 hour (if weather and traffic condtions are right) trip from Las Vegas. Makes a great weekend get-away.
