Mount Rainier

The Kautz route of Mt Rainier is a less traveled and more technical climbing route of Mt Rainier. Glacier travel is extensive and so climbers are typically roped up much of the climb. Route finding skill is also necessary as the route is note traveled often and previous climbers wands can lead to dead ends because of glacier movement. I was led by Alpine Ascents guide Michael Horst. Our group of six climbers and three guides all summited on 08/02/2011. On prior days we established a low camp at around 8000' and a high camp at 11,000' . We left for the summit at 1:30AM to take advantage of the snow freezing and arrived at the summit at 7:30AM.
