Description
South Mountain is the southernmost peak in the San Pedro range in north central New Mexico. The mountain is surrounded by private land. This mountain dominates the northern horizon as seen from Edgewood, a bedroom community about 20 miles east of Albuquerque. Local residents call it "Round Mountain" due to its hemispherical profile. Cougars, bears, deer, and other wildlife inhabit this peak. Several large pondarosa pines are located near the summit.
