Granite Peak Summit Log (#2622)

We left Avalanche base camp at 3:50 AM and made the saddle by 6:30. The snow bridge was about 35 ft long and we belayed across. We followed cairns and the foggy memory of my friends who made it last year. The summit was incredible as we reached it at 10:00 AM, but within five minutes we were surrounded by a snow storm. Thus we decided to head down. We rappelled down two chutes to save time. After the snow storm passed another storm hit carrying marble sized hail and lightning. The best idea of the whole trip came from Wild Bill who decided to slide down the snowfields using his ice ax to slow him down. The rest of us reluctantly followed him in the 500 ft descent, but were quick to thank him for the idea. Overall the trip was difficult, but very rewarding especially when done with a group of friends.
