Sikkim-Eastern Nepal Himalaya

Formerly independent, Sikkim is now an Indian state, predominantly Buddhist, sandwiched by Nepal to the west and Bhutan to the east. It covers little land area, but is home to many Himalayan peaks over 22,000 feet, and one dominant massif, Kangchenjunga (8586 m). Kangchenjunga is the easternmost of the Himalayan 8,000-meter peaks, and is the third highest mountain in the world. It rises in remote Western Sikkim, on the Nepal border. Kangchenjunga and its many satellite peaks dominate the Sikkim sky, towering above the streets of Darjeeling, 46 miles south.
